His political career included 23 years as a Member of Parliament, he was Minister of State for Defence & Chief Secretary to the Treasury. His books include his award winning biographies of President Richard Nixon and Margaret Thatcher, as well as two volumes of autobiography, Pride and Perjury & Porridge and Passion.
